13 Effective Home Remedies for Dry Skin

Dry and flaky skin can often be experienced all over the year, though they are much more common during the winter days. The dry air in the atmosphere tends to suck all the moisture away from the skin making it dry and itchy. Often some of the other factors such as aging, nutritional deficiency as well as genetic factors are also responsible for the dry skin. Dryness of the skin is not a disease, but is caused due to the external factors. When the skin loses its moisture, it also tends to lose its flexibility and becomes scaly. Natural, Homemade Remedies for Dry Skin:
1) Olive Oil:
Olive Oil is known to be a rich source of antioxidants and fatty acids, which makes it great for your skin. It can also soothe and condition your dry skin. You can use the Olive Oil along with your moisturizer. Usually, it is recommended to rub the olive oil on the dry areas before going for a bath. After shower, you can apply a moisturizer as well.
2) Milk Cream:
The Lactic Acid present in the Milk Cream is known to help exfoliate your skin. The soothing touch of the cream also helps to preserve the pH level of your skin. It works as an excellent moisturizer when mixed with a few drops of lemon juice, one teaspoon of milk and two teaspoon of milk cream.
Milk is known to contain certain anti inflammatory and soothing properties which can help to get rid of dry and itchy skin naturally. The lactic acid found in the milk is known to help exfoliate your skin and get rid of the dead skin cells. It also increases the ability of your skin to retain the moisture. Often, it is recommended to soak a washcloth in cold milk and then apply it over your dry skin for a couple of minutes. Then, you may gently wash it all away with another cloth soaked in lukewarm water. This way, the natural moisturizer from the milk will remain on your skin. This practice can be repeated after a couple of days.
Honey has long been considered as one of the best natural moisturizers as it is loaded with antioxidant, antimicrobial as well as humectants properties. It helps to lock in the moisture and makes the skin extra soft and smooth. It contains many vital vitamins and minerals which can help to improve the health of the skin. Before taking a bath, it is recommended to rub honey all over the dry regions and to leave it for 5-10 minutes. This procedure can be repeated until a well moisturized skin tone is obtained.
Yoghurt works in an excellent way to hydrate the skin. It also contains certain anti oxidant and anti inflammatory properties which help to get rid of the dry and the itchy skin. The Lactic Acid present in Yoghurt also helps to get rid of any germs or bacteria which may have accumulated over the skin. Fresh Yoghurt can be applied all over the hands, face and legs and can be gently massaged. It can be left on for about 10 minutes and then can be washed away. The exfoliating action of the Yoghurt on the skin can leave your skin refreshed.
6) Coconut Oil:
Coconut Oil is one of the best remedies for treating dry skin. It contains essential fatty acids which are known to lock in the moisture and preventing the skin from drying. Coconut Oil can be applied before going to sleep at night and can be washed off in the morning. It will make your skin soft and smooth.
Avocado is known to be packed with fatty acids, vitamins and antioxidants that can help improve the skin from inside out. The high content of Vitamin A found in Avocado is also known to help maintain the skin and repair it to make it smooth and silky. Mashing the pulp of the Avocado into a smooth paste and then rubbing it all over the dry skin can help to get rid of the flakiness.
Oatmeal is also used in order to moisturize and get rid of the dry skin. The high protein content found in Oatmeal is known to form a protective barrier against the skin and prevents the loss of water and helps to maintain the moisture within the skin. It also contains anti inflammatory properties which are great for the overall health of the skin. Adding a cup of plain oatmeal to your bathtub along with some lavender oil is known to help relieve dry skin. It is recommended to soak in this water for about 30 minutes.
9) Almond Oil:
Almond Oil is a rich source of Vitamin E which makes it an excellent emollient and lubricator when it comes to dry the skin. The antioxidant properties of Almond Oil make it amazing for the skin and since the oil is non greasy in nature, it can be easily absorbed by the skin.
10) Aloe Vera:
Aloe Vera is known for its soothing antiseptic and antifungal properties. This makes it an amazing plant for tackling with dry and irritated skin. Aloe Vera moisturizes your skin and forms a protective layer against it which keeps your skin free of impurities. You can squeeze the gel out of the plant and can apply it all over your skin. Let the gel sit in for 15 minutes and wash it off with lukewarm water.
11) Egg Yolk Paste:
Egg Yolk is an amazing remedy for dry skin. You can make an easy pack with the yolk of an egg along with one teaspoon of milk powder and honey each. You can apply this paste all over the skin and leave it off for 20 minutes. It can be later washed off with tap water.
12) Cucumber Face Pack:
Cucumber is amazing when it comes to treating dry skin. Cucumber known to moisturize the dry skin and also lightens skin tone. You can make a paste off a cucumber and then apply it all over the face. It can be left off for 30 minutes before washing off.
13) Banana Paste:
Bananas can also be used in order to fight against dry skin. Mash a ripe banana and apply it like a face pack over the affected areas. Leave it off for 30 minutes and rinse off with water. Rubbing a banana over the skin is known to prevent inflammation and helps to recover the softness and smoothness of the skin.
