Boob Changes before and after pregnancy

Right from the moment of the conception, a woman’s body tends to start preparing for breastfeeding. Many women tend to observe a change in their breasts even before they miss a period. Swelling of the breasts is one of the first changes in a woman’s body after the onset of the pregnancy.

The change in the shape and the size of the breasts is caused due to the amount of the fatty tissue and the blood flow to the breasts increases. Thus is caused in order to allow the milk ducts and the mammary glands to grow. The swelling tends to make the veins underneath to be visible. One of the other important changes is the sticking out of the nipples and the darkening of the areola.

During the second and the third trimester of the pregnancy, the breast tenderness tends to increase and the breasts gain a capacity to provide milk. Some women experience a leakage from their breasts, which is quite normal. Some women tend to experience stretch marks all over their breasts. In some other cases yet, the breasts also tend to start itching as the skin increases and stretches in size.

Changes after the delivery:

Immediately after the delivery, the body tends to release the hormone prolactin in order to signal the breasts to start with the production of the milk. The breasts are also stimulated with the sucking action of the baby.

It usually takes around 2-3 days for the breast milk to come in and for the baby to start the first feeding pattern. When the milk comes in, you can expect your breasts to swell and be lumpy and heavy in most cases. Some women also experience an aching sensation throughout their breasts.
