Water breaking during pregnancy. What to do?Created On : March 20, 2015
Water breaking is a phenomenon where the amniotic sac of a person ruptures and is a signal that your baby is ready to be born. No one is sure as to what triggers the breaking of the sac, but the reaction tends to occur during the 40th week of pregnancy. However, experts are of an opinion that brain signals from the fetus are responsible for the breaking up of the sac.
Around 15% of women all over the world experience the breaking up of the sac before going into labor. When the breaking of the sac occurs, it is more like a slow trickle of colorless and odorless amniotic fluid.
It is recommended to get in touch with a doctor immediately when your water breaks. If the fluid looks green or brown in color, don’t be alarmed. It just means that your baby had a bowel movement in the uterus, which is known as Meconium. If you are 37 weeks pregnant or less, contact your doctor as soon as possible.
If you feel something in your vagina or you can see the umbilical cord at the vaginal opening, you could be going through a condition known as Cord Prolapse. It is recommended to reach the doctor as soon as possible.
