Diabetes is the disease on a spree! In the next decade, it is expected that the disease will reach alarming levels and will be one of the major conditions affecting people all over the world. However, you will be alarmed to know that contracting Diabetes is a choice. It is not a certain fate but is something which can be easily controlled. So, here are the few tips which you can follow in order to keep Diabetes at bay:
- Move all you can: Walking is one of the surest ways to keep the disease at bay. Make sure that you choose stairs over elevators or a bicycle in place of a car. With the help of a Pedometer or the latest apps available, you can even measure the number of steps which you took in a day. It is recommended to take 6500 or above steps per day in order to keep the disease at bay.
- Eating Right: Your diet determines the risk factors that you are susceptible to. Including plant based foods such as whole grains, vegetables and fruits and avoiding sodium and carbonated drinks can reduce your risk of contracting the disease. Also, going steady on a low carb diet helps you to maintain your blood sugar level at an optimum amount. Aerated drinks, sodas, fried foods and bakery products are a strict no!
- Getting the right Sleep: Working round the clock has never worked out for anyone. Getting your eight hours of sleep every night helps you to reduce your risk of contracting the disease.
- Know your blood sugar level: Doctors have recommended the patients to check their blood sugar level after every two years. If you have a family history of diabetes, it is recommended to go for an annual checkup.
Regular screening and indulging in healthy lifestyle hacks such as exercising and maintaining a correct diet chart can help you to decrease your risk of contracting the disease. The above mentioned strategies can actively help people to improve their health.
