How to Prevent Skin Aging

Aging is inevitable. But there are a number of ways to slow down the aging process and have a beautiful and smooth skin for many years. One of the best ways to prevent aging is to follow a proper beauty regimen from an early age. Nowadays, because of dust, pollution and unhealthy lifestyle, skin ages faster, which makes one appear older than one’s age. Excessive exposure to sun also contributes to aging. By following a healthy diet and lifestyle and having a good beauty regime, one can prevent aging of skin.
One of the main reasons for wrinkles and loss of elasticity of skin is dehydration. Most of us do not have the required daily amount of water. Water is rightly called the elixir of life and we need it for keeping our body and skin hydrated. One needs to have at least 8-10 glasses of water daily besides having green tea and fruit and vegetable juices. For people who stay in air conditioning all day long, it is important to keep one hydrated as AC robs moisture from the skin.
Loading up on Antioxidants
Our diet has a direct bearing on our skin health. A balanced diet with plenty of antioxidants is essential for glowing and wrinkle-free skin. Add food rich in antioxidants such as strawberries, gooseberries, blueberries, and tomatoes to your diet. Antioxidants helps to prevent free radicals that causes premature aging of skin in the form of dark spots and fine lines.
Exposure to sun damages our skin and causes loss of skin elasticity, sagging, dark spots and wrinkles. The best way to combat this is by applying a good and effective broad spectrum sunscreen with UVA and UVB protection. Even if you stay indoors, it is a good idea to apply a sunscreen. Also limit sun exposure, especially between 10 am and 4 pm when the sun’s rays are the strongest.
Moisturize your Skin
Your skin requires moisture so that it remains hydrated and appears supple and plump. Loss of moisture leads to problems such as appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Hence always use a good moisturizer to keep your skin hydrated. There are many good moisturizers available in the market. Choose one that suits your skin type.
Eat Omega 3 Fatty Acids
Our body requires the right type of fat to keep skin healthy and supple. Omega 3 fatty acids that are found in foods such as walnuts, salmon, avocado and sunflower seeds are very good for your skin. Make sure that you include them in your diet to prevent skin aging and to have a healthy and glowing complexion.
It is very important to remove all traces of makeup before retiring to sleep. Sleeping with makeup contributes to skin problems such as pimples and blackheads as well as fine lines and wrinkles. So, remove makeup with a good makeup remover or with baby lotion before sleeping.
