Lemon Water Weight Loss - Myth or Truth?

You might have heard celebrities such as Gwyneth Paltrow suggest that guzzling hot water with lemon is the source to the fountain of youth! It is quite certain that warm water and lemon helps in weight loss, but isn’t this claim too good to be true?
Researchers at the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics have suggested that hot water and lemon itself does not cause any actual loss of body weight. However, if this drink is replaced in place of a beverage which is higher in calories such as coffee or tea, it can cause a calorie deficit which can help you to lose body weight.
Drinking water, no matter hot or cold, which has been infused with lemon, is known to keep your metabolism humming. Staying hydrated is a very crucial part of a healthy diet because it helps to boost your metabolism. For those people who do not enjoy drinking plain water, adding some lemon is one of the best ways to boost the flavor of the drink without worrying about the additional calories.
For a short term benefit, drinking water with lemon is also known to reduce the signs of bloating. It can act as a mild and a natural diuretic. However, if you are suffering from bloating in a long term way, it is best to look out for the causes behind it and to work towards avoiding it. Eating too fat, drinking carbonated beverages, consuming too much salt or consuming food with sugar alcohol are some of the common culprits behind bloating.
It is also not recommended to chug water with lemon religiously if you are suffering from heartburn or acid reflux, as the citric acid present in lemon is only known to aggravate the symptoms.
