A dog which has suddenly lost its sense of balance could be suffering from a serious health problem – this kind of condition requires an immediate medical attention.

Primary Cause of Loss of Balance:

Some of the most common causes of disequilibrium are the head traumas, middle ear infections as well as poisoning.

Immediate Care for Loss of Balance:

It is very important to examine the dog’s head for any signs of trauma. In case you are able to find cuts or bruises or you are able to observe the signs of shock, it is recommended to get immediate help from a vet. If there are no signs of a head injury or you are certain of the fact that your dog is not a diabetic, make sure that you examine the ears for any signs of discharge, wax as well as inflammation. These tend to indicate an ear infection which is going to require immediate medical attention.

In case your dog is diabetic, check the insulin dosage and schedule of your dog. You should also check the diabetic guidelines for your dog.

In case there is no discharge from the ears, it may be possible that your dog has swallowed human medications. Alternatively, it could have also swallowed mind altering drugs, may have ingested alcohol or could be showing signs of a brain disorder.

It is important to take your pet to the vet immediate for further medical examination. Always make sure that you keep medicines and other poisonous substances out of the reach. Seek proper medical treatment if you dog have developed an ear infection and make sure that you maintain a proper schedule for the insulin injections if it is suffering from Diabetes.
