Protecting Your Pet From Pests

If you are thinking of taking your pet outside and allowing him to play in the garden and are concerned about pests as well, here is something for you. Outsides can be a great place for your pets, but you have to make sure that you are protecting your pets against:

  • Fleas: If your pet is using a monthly pet prevention, he will be safe for fleas. If he is not using any prevention, start right away.
  • Ticks: Ticks are one of the biggest concerns of pet owners all over the world. This is because ticks can cause a number of diseases to pets and pet owners at the same time.
  • Scabies: This is an intense, itchy rash which is caused due to mites. Often, these mites are carried by foxes in the wild.

Wooded areas as well as meadows are one of the best places for ticks and rabies. Fleas are caused mostly around the urban areas. It is recommended to check the product description in order to prevent the risk for ticks or scabies amongst pets. However, if you are having a hard time finding the right product which helps to prevent all three in your pet, check out with your vet.

Looking out for Fleas and Ticks:

Prevention is the best approach to fight against ticks and fleas. However, it is also recommended to go for a visual inspection of your pet after you come back from a hiking or a camping trip. You should be aware of the fact that even with the use of these reliable products, you will be still able to find the ticks attached to the skin of your pet. It takes time for the ticks to die and fall off on their own. The key is to make sure that the ticks are not engorging on the blood and that there is no transfer of the infection organisms from the ticks to the dog.

Removing the ticks in your pet follows the same regime as it does in case of the humans. However, going slow is the best way. Gently pull off the head of the tick from the skin and do not leave the mouth part hanging around. If you are pulling away with a gentle traction for a few seconds, the ticks will not be able to hang out for long.

Nothing beats in using the vet recommended preventive product against ticks. If you are following the instructions of your pet for the prevention of ticks, your pet will be able to run or swim off free!
