Reasons Behind Aging

Aging is considered to be a natural process by everyone. It’s a phenomenon which has to happen, irrespective of whatever measures we may consider in order to avoid it. Though it cannot be avoided, measures could be taken in order to slow down the process of aging by changing our lifestyle and bringing in more of a healthy pattern.
Aging is characterised into two major categories:
1. Intrinsic Aging:
Intrinsic or natural aging takes place with time. Due to the low production of collagen and elastin in skin, the underlying fat decreases and therefore, the sagging of the skin begin. The physical changes in skin usually start becoming more visible after the 40’s. The slowed exfoliation of the skin along with the decreasing number of cells owing to the rapid degenartion begins to show. Intrinsic aging though cannot be stopped, can be decreased.
2. Extrinsic Aging:
Extrinsic aging takes place due to the external factors in the environment. Primarily among these factors is the harmful UV radiation of the sun that causes the breakdown of the collagen in the skin and thus, causes the premature aging of the skin. With the exposure to the UV radiations, the skin cells lose their elasticity and therefore, fine lines and wrinkles start appearing upon the skin, giving an impression of aging.
Smoking is another extrinsic factor that leads to premature aging. Chemicals from the cigarettes are easily absorbed into the bloodstream and they cause the constriction of the blood vessels. This emerges as one of the major reasons for the reduction of oxygen levels that reach the skin and therefore, due to the excessive breakage of collagen, the skin loses it sheen and becomes prone to wrinkles and loss of elasticity.
Alcohol consumption is another evil which leads to the reduction of the elasticity of the skin and therefore causes the loss of Vitamin A and antioxidants from reaching the skin. With the dilation of the blood vessels, the skin becomes blotchier and thus, leaves behind a pale and dull complexion.
Poor diets and low health standards are one of the major reasons for premature aging. Low consummation of fruits and vegetables which are rich in antioxidants leaves the skin dull. Omega 3 fatty acids enriched food such as salmon and tuna are great for the skin due to their antioxidant qualities.
Aging can be delayed by following a strict and healthy lifestyle. Sugar consumption needs to be kept in check. Only if proper measures are followed, can you preserve the glow and shine of a healthy skin!
