Effective Ayurvedic Medicines for Weight Loss

In the traditional Ayurveda, the Charak Samhita describes right different kinds of bodies that are prone to diseases. Out of this, the body which suffers from obesity is the one which is afflicted with the maximum number of diseases and disorders. Obesity, as a condition tends to happen when the body has an excessive deposition of fat along the lining of the adipose tissue. Various ayurvedic medicines have been prescribed for weight loss and removed the excessive fat.

Extra fat tends to put an enormous pressure over the heart, kidneys, liver and the major joints such as the hips, knees and the ankles. People who suffer from obesity also tend to fall prey to various diseases such as coronary heart disease, thrombosis, high blood pressure, diabetes, arthritis, gout, liver as well as gall bladder diseases. One of the major reasons behind obesity is overeating, irregular eating habits as well as mixing various non compatible food items together and consuming them.

With an increase in the age of a person, it can be quite challenging and difficult to lose weight through dieting and exercise. Ayurveda, therefore brings out age old techniques and methods which can be used in order to fight against the extra resistant fat by igniting the digestive powers of the body. Ayurveda tends to focus more on the reason behind the enlargement of the fat cells and provides you with a long term plan for weight management. These techniques have been tested and tried for years and have yielded great results when practiced on a daily basis.

Ayurvedic brings forth a concept known as ‘Ama’ which focuses on losing the excessive body weight. Ama translated to toxins. These toxins, which have been accumulated with the formation of the impurities in the body, pose some major health risks. Some toxins are water soluble which means that they can be easily removed from the body with a combination of a good diet and exercise. Other toxins, which are fat soluble can become stuck deep inside the cells and upon accumulation can lead to weight gain. Usually, the non soluble toxins tend to gather more around the stomach, hips as well as the thighs.

Ayurvedic techniques target usually to remove this ama from the body, by shrinking the fat cells. The older you get, the more common it gets for the toxins to accumulate in your body. With the easy implementation of some daily habits along with the detox programs, these toxins can be removed and weight gain does not become a chronic issue.

One of the first steps is to check and determine if you have an accumulation of toxins in your bloodstream. If there is a deposition of toxins in the bloodstream, then the next step is the removal of the same.

Here are some of the major ways to fight fats and lose weight with the help of Ayurvedic Medicines:

1) Detox Tea:

Detox Tea contains a combination of various ingredients which are required in order to improve the digestion, help in the breakdown of the fat as well as helps to clog down the channels of the body by removing the excessive fat. Detox Tea can be prepared with the help of cumin seeds, coriander seeds as well as fennel seeds. It can be stored and can be consumed throughout the day.

2) Triphala Treats:

Triphala Treats are made from Triphala which is an ancient Ayurvedic herb made by the combination of three major Indian super fruits: Amalaki, Haritaki and Bibhitaki. These work as a natural antioxidant and help to remove the excessive inflammation throughout the body. It also helps to increase the lean mass of the body and helps the body to maintain a healthy blood sugar level. Haritaki is known to support the natural cleansing process of the body and helps to remove the toxins which have accumulated within the colon of a person. Bibhitaki is known to be greatly effective when it comes to reducing the accumulation of the fat and the fluids in the body. These herbs are known to have major value when taken collectively. They become even more powerful when they are taken along with Triphala as they work as a powerful tool and helps to detoxify and strengthen the body, helping a person to achieve the perfect body weight.

Triphala can be consumed either in a powder or in a tablet form. The powder has a strong taste and therefore, tablets are a more popular choice. Triphala treats can be taken every evening, one hour before going to bed.

3) Cutting Calories:

Cutting down calories is the best way to achieve your ideal body weight. One of the most amazing things about this technique is that you would just have to change the time during which you would be consuming these calories. According to Ayurveda, lunch time is the one during which you consume maximum calories. It is also the time during which the digestive system is the most active. It is recommended to eat the least amount of calories during the course of your dinner. Also, the number of calories being consumed in a day should be measured in order to get the chart on track. Here are some recommendations regarding your meals:

Breakfast: Breakfast should contain easy to digest foods such as Oat meals, cereal and fresh fruits. Egg yolks are not recommended during breakfast as they are quite hard to digest.

Lunch: Lunch should be your largest meal of the day and can contain heavy foods such as eggs, cheese and meat.

Dinner: During dinnertime, your digestive system is the weakest and therefore, it should be the lightest and smallest meal of your day. Dinner should ideally contain small portions of food such as soups or cooked vegetables. Dinner should not be consumed after 7 p.m as the digestive system of the body tends to become weaker during the night time and the body cannot process any more food, which is then turned to toxins and is stored in the fat cells ultimately.

4) Adding Curry Powder to Meals:

Adding curry powder to your meals is a great way to lose weight. Ayurveda tends to recognize six major tastes – sweet, salty, bitter, sour, astringent and pungent. Ayurveda points out that in order to feel satisfied during meal times and to eat less food, it is recommended to have all the six major food tastes in your mouth. These six tastes also work well in order to improve your digestion and help to melt down the fat in your body. An average every day diet only contains three major tastes – sweet, sour and salty. Curry powder, when added to food tends to add all the six major tastes in your food. This provides a full flavor to your food. Ayurvedic Churnas are also a great way in order to incorporate these tastes into your food. These churnas have the blend of all these tastes and tend to make your meals better. You can make a special blend of your own by following this method:

In a grinder, mix the following items for your ideal churan:

5 tsp coriander seeds

1 tsp fenugreek seeds

1 large bay leaf

Half tsp cumin seeds

Half tsp mustard seeds

One small cinnamon stick

5 cloves

2 tsp turmeric powder

5) Garcinia Cambogia or Vrikshamla

This is a very popular ingredient which is used in Ayurveda for the ideal weight loss. This ingredient contains Hydroxycitric acid, which helps to curb down the accumulation of the fat in the body. Some recent studies have also suggested that this herb is used in order to moderate the activities of the genes which have been associated with the synthesis of the fat.

6) Commiphora Mukul Resin or Guggul

This resin is commonly known as Guggul and is a powerful fat burner. It helps to correct the lipid disorders in the body and also treats obesity. It also helps to lower the amount of total cholesterol in the body, the low density lipoprotein as well as the bad cholesterol or the triglycerides. Guggul is even known to elevate the concentration of the high density lipoprotein or the good cholesterol in the body.

7) Ginger or Zingiber Officinale

Ginger is quite well known when it comes to assisting with the weight loss. The Phytochemicals present in Ginger is known to regulate the metabolism in the cholesterol and also helps to control the oxidation of the fatty acids. It also inhibits the accumulation of the fats and lowers the amount of cholesterol in the body.

8) Nigella Sativa or Kalonji

The seed extract of Nigella Sativa, which is also known as Kalonji in the common tongue is recommended by Ayurveda for promoting weight loss. The anti obesity effect of Nigella Sativa is well known to improve the body mass index (BMI) and the waist hip ratio in patients.

9) Cyperus Rotundus

Cyperus Rotundus is well known in Ayurveda in order to accelerate the weight loss process. It also helps in enabling the fat burning in the body by inducing the process of thermogenesis.

10) Glycyrrhiza Glabra or Licorice

Trials have been done to reduce the amount of abdominal fat with the help of Licorice. Flavanoids found in Licorice are known to inhibit the oxidation of the fatty acids in the body. They also help to reduce the amounts of triglycerides in the liver and the blood.

This is an exhaustive list of ayurvedic medications needed to lose weight and reduce extra fats from the body.

In my opinion also, Ayurveda is the best way to lose weight. Otherwise, if we are going to rely on medications which are allopatic in nature, then we are only going to gain more weight, not lose some. I think this is the best and the most suitable approach towards losing weight.
