Created On : March 18, 2015

A lot of mothers to be experience swollen, red and tender gums during the course of their pregnancy that bleeds when they are flossed or brushed. This could be the symptom of a mild form of gum disease known as Pregnancy Gingivitis. During the course of your pregnancy, it is quite normal for your gums to become inflamed due to the hormonal change which makes them more sensitive to the bacteria and the plaque.

Many women are also known to develop a benign nodule on their gums which bleeds while you are brushing. This is known as Pyrogenic Granuloma, which is quite painless and harmless.

Mild forms of gum disease are not known to cause you any harm if you are practicing proper dental hygiene. It is recommended to get in touch with your dentist if you are suffering from any of the below mentioned symptoms:

  • A toothache
  • Gums that bleed frequently and are painful
  • Gum diseases such as swollen, tender gums, receding gums, bad breath and loosening teeth
  • Growths in your mouth even when they are not painful or are causing any symptoms.
