Nosebleeds during pregnancy. Why and are they normal?

Created On : March 20, 2015

Nosebleeds are more common when a woman is pregnant. Pregnancy can lead the blood vessels in the nose to expand and therefore, result in an increased supply of blood to the nose. This increased blood supply puts tremendous pressure on the delicate vessels of the nose, causing them to rupture easily. Though they can be irritating sometimes, nosebleeds do not cause any harm to the unborn baby.

Pregnant mothers are often more prone to suffer from a nosebleed if they are suffering from cold, sinus infections or from allergies. Sometimes, when the membranes inside the nose dry out, often during the cold weather or while sitting in the air conditioned rooms, nosebleeds tend to occur. Trauma and medical conditions such as high blood pressure or a clotting disorder are also responsible for nosebleeds in pregnant women.
